CENTRAL MARYLAND YFC & CAMPUS LIFE work with FAMILIES, SCHOOLS & CHURCHES to provide FREE & FUN programs for 11-19 years olds. Young people are taught and encouraged through games, teamwork, discussions and mentoring. This approach helps young people establish a solid foundation for life and develop leadership skills that will, in turn, impact the community today and in the future.

The Central Maryland YFC (Campus Life) mission to be fun, free and developmental has not changed, but HOW WE ACCOMPLISH THE MISSION HAS CHANGED DRAMATICALLY IN THE PAST NINE MONTHS.

CMYFC replaced in-person after-school time with Zoom clubs. Birthday parades, front porch deliveries, group chats added to the fun and met social distancing requirements. Many students were cared for as mentors personalized connections. A late-summer outdoor day-camp offered in-person time for young leaders to be with peers, socially distanced of course. In September 2020, Campus Life began small groups outdoors in parks, backyards and church parking lots.

As large group gatherings begin to meet again, Campus Life will relaunch after-school clubs, and will continue the new models of ministry reaching more students in newly established on-line discussion groups.

Central Maryland YFC (Campus Life) shares the love of Jesus and His work with students. Our team celebrates diversity and respects each person as a wonderfully created person who is treasured by God. ALL students are welcome to participate in this program!

Business Description / Hours:

Through a team of dedicated Frederick volunteers, COIPP has developed a unique approach to assisting the children and families who are impacted by incarceration. In fact, COIPP is ostensibly the only organization in the nation that serves not only the child, but also the child’s caregiver and the incarcerated family member. All services are provided free of charge to the families and revolve around the needs of the children. We accomplish this through donations, fundraising, and grants. We care greatly about the children in our community for they are our neighbors and our friends. They deserve to have a happy, healthy childhood so they can grow up to be productive adults.

There are over 2.7 million children, ages birth through 18, with an incarcerated parent in the United States. In Maryland alone there are over 90,000 children in this situation. The exact number of Frederick children with an incarcerated parent is difficult to discern, for their parents may be incarcerated at jails and prisons throughout the United States. In 2019, we served over 700 children in one capacity or another. Many times children impacted by the incarceration of a loved one suffer financially, socially and emotionally. Because the incarceration is often viewed as a family secret, or the family lacks the ability to help with needed resources for the child, this situation can bring about enormous stress and trauma.

Through the Unity Campaign, we will be able to maintain our present efforts and enhance our ability to offer much needed services to meet the needs of these children. Our expanded endeavors will include the distribution of additional, high quality children’s books on relevant topics such as feelings, having an incarcerated loved one, and the meaning of family. Funds raised through the Unity Campaign will enable us to increase the number of Family Resource Boxes we mail out, and expand resources for our Sharing Fairs and COVID Emergency Giveaways. It is our goal to increase the number of scholarships we offer at Frederick Community College for caregivers, ex-inmates who are parents, and children old enough to attend college. We would also like to expand our GED offerings and possibly add scholarships to technical schools and at local four year colleges and universities. In addition, it is our plan to provide financial support for children who would benefit from attending extra curricular activities such as dance classes, art lessons, and sports, and attend summer camps. These ideas grow as we listen carefully to our children, their caregivers and their parents to ensure that we are responding to their needs. For us this means that the assistance we can offer is endless. Help us aid these children by raising money for activities and resources geared to help mitigate the children’s trauma, while supporting their financial needs.

Business Description / Hours:

Children of Incarcerated Parents Partnership (COIPP) provides support, resources and services for the children impacted by the incarceration of a loved one, as well as their caregivers and present and formerly incarcerated family members in the Frederick region. COIPP is currently an all volunteer non-profit organization that has been in existence for over sixteen years, and continues to grow in the number of those served and the number of programs provided.
While there are many men and women in the Frederick County Detention Center on any given day, the number does not tell the whole story. The majority of this population has children, and the statistics do not show the number of Frederick parents in other facilities around the country. There is much research and evidence that shows the hardships that families face from this unfortunate time in their lives negatively impacts their children’s social and emotional development. And COIPP is there to help!
COIPP uses donations and grants to provide the many activities that serve these families. Because COIPP is comprised of all volunteers, all money raised is applied directly into projects/activities to assist them, such as fun and educational children’s activities, a free book nook and regular sharing fairs at the Detention Center, parenting workshops at the Detention Center, respite workshops for the caregivers, scholarships to Frederick Community College for caregivers and those former inmates and their children, and so much more.
COIPP is here for the community, and we invite you to join in helping these vulnerable children, their moms, dads, and siblings.
