The Frederick Bocce working group is organized under Friends of Baker Park, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit, volunteer-staffed community service organization dedicated to fostering community involvement in the preservation, restoration, use, and maintenance of Baker Park.

A 34-campsite, four-camper cabin campground is available seasonally. A large stone monument dedicated to the memory of Civil War correspondents is the outstanding attraction of this day-use park. The Appalachian National Scenic Trail traverses the park and passes the monument base. Gathland State Park was once the mountain home of George Alfred Townsend, a Civil War journalist. In the late 1800s, Gathland featured a unique collection of buildings and structures designed and constructed by Townsend. Two of the structures, the main hall and lodge, were partially restored in the 1950s.

Gaver Family Farm is a diversified family farming operation established in 1978 by Michael Gaver at age 17, with the first sales in 1984. Today there are seventy acres of cut your own Christmas trees planted in different stages of growth. The pumpkin business was started as a small self-serve stand in the front yard in 1998 by 8-year-old son Greg. In 2007 the family expanded the farm stand to include hayrides to the patch for pick your own pumpkins and added an agritourism Fall Fun Festival with corn maze, farm animals and numerous fun and educational activities for families. In 2010 the apple orchard was planted and in 2018 sunflower fields were added. Gaver Farm is a food producer. In 2007, after 50 years on the same farm the family sold the milking dairy herd and now have cow/calf and feeder beef herd, meat goats, feeder pigs and various flocks of birds. They operate a crop farm and grow corn, soybeans, wheat, rye cover crop and various hays. The Gaver Family was Frederick County Farm Family of the Year in 2005 and was presented the Take Pride in America award in 2008 for outstanding conservation and environmental stewardship practices. In 2011 Gaver Farm was awarded the distinction of being a Certified Agricultural Conservation Steward under the Farm Stewardship Certification and Assessment Program. Mike and Lisa appreciate the community support and are most proud of their children’s return to the farm after college and desire to keep our farm in agriculture! You are invited to come and experience the farm firsthand!

Located in the Appalachian Mountains, Greenbrier State Park is a multi-use park providing many kinds of recreation. The 42-acre man-made freshwater lake and white sandy beach draw many visitors who enjoy swimming, canoeing, boating and fishing. A visitor center is open year-round. Almost eleven miles of hiking trails meander through a variety of wildlife habitats and rock outcrops show much of the earth’s geologic history. A portion of the Appalachian Trail enters the eastern edge of the park on Bartman’s Hill and passes through the park. Greenbrier State Park offers an accessible visitors’ center, picnic areas, and some campsites. A beach wheelchair is also available. Please note: Due to scheduled work on the dam, the trail across the top of the dam and portions of the trail system will be closed beginning in the spring of 2020. Construction will not occur on weekends or after sunset. Construction noise is expected during daylight hours except on weekends and holidays. The boat ramp will be open to all vessels once water depth rises. Park activities and programs remain unaffected throughout the summer.

Since I was a child, I have taken photographs of everyday moments and small happenings in my life. These photos make up bits and pieces of my life story, and tell a bit about who I am, from my perspective. My life’s work is creating photographs and albums that tell stories of moments and happenings in the lives of my clients.
Local photographer from Smithsburg, MD who studied photography while attending New York Institute of Photography. I’m certified in Fundamentals of Digital Photography, Advance Portrait Photography and have been professionally taking portraits since 2019.
Why portrait photography? I am thrilled to have a job that allows me to explore my creativity while documenting significant moments in my clients lives. At every shoot, I learn something about love, something about life, or something about relationships. It is a tremendous honor to witness and document the love, emotion, and growing relationships of my clients. I am grateful every day to have such a fulfilling job.

Established in 1994, Jumbos started with a roadside wagon and 1-1/2 acres of pumpkins. Jumbo’s has grown to many acres of pick your own pumpkins, huge corn maze, and many other family activities. Again in 2016, we were named among the top 10 Pumpkin Patches in the United States by MSN. Farm visitors can enjoy hayrides to the pumpkin patch and corn maze, petting zoo, pony rides, fall shopping in the General Store, and Craft Attic for various handcrafted items from over 45 local artisans.
